国家发展与智能治理综合实验室系列学术沙龙（五）“中国电力系统低碳转型：不确定性、资源约束与机制变革 LOW-CARBON TRANSITION OF POWER SYSTEM IN
CHINA: UNCERTAINTIES, RESOURCE ADEQUACIES AND INSTITUONAL CHANGES” 将在本周四4月20日中午12:30 于国发实验室（邯郸校区计算中心A306）线下举办。
内容提要| Abstract
Power systems are contending with maintaining reliability and resource adequacy given extreme weather, volatile fuel prices, and increasing penetrations of renewable energy generation. What is the role for markets and other institutional changes in promoting energy security while also staying on track with climate change mitigation goals? In this talk, I will discuss the context and causes of recent blackouts. Then, I will introduce a new project offering case studies in Northeast China of two types of routine public reports that are common internationally: post-crisis analysis reports and forward-looking seasonal resource adequacy outlook reports. Modeling simulations indicate that generation resources are currently adequate to maintain system reliability in the face of extreme weather conditions, assuming no policy rigidities or export priority requirements. Constructing more coal-fired power plants is unlikely to be the least-cost answer to support a reliable new energy power system.
主讲人介绍 | Speaker
Michael Davidson, assistant professor joint with the School of Global Policy and Strategy and the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of California, San Diego, where he leads the Power Transformation Lab. Dr. Davidson’s teaching and research focus on the engineering implications and institutional conflicts inherent in deploying low-carbon energy at scale to mitigate environmental harms, specializing in applications to China, India, and the U.S. Michael holds a Ph.D. in engineering systems and an S.M. in technology and policy from MIT, and a B.S. in mathematics and physics and a B.A. in Japanese studies from Case Western Reserve University. He has held a post-doctoral fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
